ICC opens a free ballot for 2027 World Cup tickets with entries running until November 21

Cricket supporters anywhere in the world can register from Thursday for tickets to the 2027 Men's Cricket World Cup in South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe, through a free ballot that stays open until 21 November

The International Cricket Council confirmed on Wednesday that the ticket ballot for the 14th edition of its 50-over World Cup goes live on 1 October, the same day the match schedule is released.

Entry costs nothing and is open globally. The ballot is deliberately not first come, first served: every valid entry submitted between 1 October and 21 November 2026 carries the same weight, whatever day it arrives.

The tournament will be staged across three host countries next year, with 14 teams playing 57 matches at 12 venues.

How the ballot works

Fans may apply for as many fixtures as they want, with each match counted as a separate entry rather than one application covering a group of games.

Every entry can request up to four tickets for that match, and applicants nominate a preferred ticket category at the same time.

Where demand for a match outstrips the seats available, a randomised process decides which applicants become eligible to buy.

That structure allows a supporter to spread entries across a pool of matches without committing to any of them, since nothing is paid at the point of registration.

Why the timing of an entry does not matter

The ICC has been explicit that applying on the opening morning confers no advantage. “All valid entries received between 1 October and 21 November 2026 will be considered equally, regardless of when in the ballot period they are submitted,” the governing body said.

The ICC described the arrangement as giving fans a fair opportunity to reach tickets for a tournament returning to southern Africa for the first time since 2003.

It also carried a plain warning for anyone treating registration as a formality: entering the ballot does not guarantee tickets.

What happens once the draw is made

Successful applicants will be contacted by email and given a defined window in which to complete their purchase, rather than an open-ended right to buy.

For matches that are not oversubscribed, fans who registered will be able to buy directly, with any seats left over potentially released in later sales phases.

The ICC has not yet published ticket prices or category breakdowns, both of which sit behind the schedule announcement.

A schedule to go with it

The ballot opens alongside the schedule launch at the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town, where representatives of the ICC, the local organising committee, the host nations and the wider cricket community will gather.

Pairing the two means entries open with the fixture list already public, so supporters weighing flights and accommodation can apply knowing which teams play where and when.

South Africa will carry the bulk of the tournament, with Namibia and Zimbabwe staging matches of their own across the 12 grounds.

What it means for Indian supporters

India's fixtures will be among the most closely watched when the schedule appears, and the ballot is the first formal route to a seat at them.

The tournament also carries a farewell. Virat Kohli has already said the 2027 edition will be his last World Cup, telling the ICC last week: “For me, it's the last World Cup I'm going to play for India. And that is my motivation.”

Supporters travelling from India face a longer and costlier trip than they did in 2023, when the tournament was played at home, which makes an early decision on which matches to chase a more consequential one.

With no payment required to enter and no premium for applying early, the practical question for fans is not when to register but how many matches to put an entry in for.
