Hubballi to Host Ranji Trophy Final as Chinnaswamy Upgrades Continue

The Ranji Trophy final will be played at the KSCA Stadium in Hubballi, with the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru deemed not yet ready to host top-flight cricket despite receiving necessary government clearances.

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had the option of staging the title clash between Karnataka and Jammu & Kashmir either in Bengaluru or Hubballi. However, ongoing infrastructure and safety upgrades at the Chinnaswamy proved decisive in shifting the marquee fixture.

Work is currently underway to widen spectator gates and improve access points at the iconic Bengaluru venue, following recommendations made by an expert committee formed by the home ministry. With several structural enhancements still in progress, officials felt it would not be feasible to guarantee the spectator experience expected of a Ranji final.

As a result, the spotlight turns to KSCA Stadium, which will host the final starting February 24.

Eight-time champions Karnataka cricket team are chasing their first Ranji Trophy title since the 2014-15 season. They booked their 16th final appearance after overcoming Uttarakhand on the basis of a first-innings lead in Lucknow. Karnataka have historically dominated their opponents, winning all four previous meetings against Jammu & Kashmir.

For Jammu and Kashmir cricket team, the occasion is historic. Sixty-seven years after receiving BCCI affiliation, they have reached their maiden Ranji final, defeating Bengal in a gripping semi-final despite conceding a first-innings lead.

Hubballi has already staged one match this season, where Karnataka secured a commanding victory over Chandigarh. Now, it prepares to host one of the biggest matches in Indian domestic cricket.
