Hetmyer, Stoinis fireworks and Jasdeep five-for crush Washington Freedom

Explosive batting from Shimron Hetmyer and Marcus Stoinis, followed by a sensational five-wicket haul from Jasdeep Singh, powered Seattle Orcas to a commanding 88-run victory over Washington Freedom in MLC 2026.

After being asked to bat first, Seattle Orcas posted a massive 227 for 6 thanks to a brutal late assault from Hetmyer and captain Stoinis. The Orcas made a steady start, reaching 59 without loss in the powerplay, before accelerating sharply in the death overs.

Hetmyer anchored the charge with a breathtaking 79 not out off 33 balls, smashing boundaries all around the ground. His innings turned devastating in the final over when he launched three consecutive sixes to push Seattle past 220.

Stoinis provided the biggest momentum shift. Walking in with Orcas well-placed but not dominant, he exploded with 42 off just 16 deliveries, including a remarkable over where he smashed five sixes off Ian Holland. In a matter of balls, Seattle transformed a good total into a daunting one.

Chasing 228, Washington Freedom’s reply collapsed almost instantly. Their top order had no answer to Jasdeep Singh’s disciplined and aggressive spell.

Freedom slumped to 42 for 5 inside the powerplay, losing major names including:

• Steven Smith
• Glenn Maxwell
• Andries Gous

Jasdeep produced the spell of the match, taking 5 for 24. His decisive fifth over ripped through Freedom’s middle order as he dismissed Gous, Maxwell, and Jack Edwards in the same over, effectively ending the chase.

At one stage, Freedom looked in danger of suffering one of the heaviest defeats in MLC history. Some lower-order resistance from Amila Aponso, who scored 31 off 13*, helped reduce the margin, but the result was never in doubt as Freedom were bowled out for 139.

The emphatic win lifts Seattle Orcas to second place on the MLC points table, behind the unbeaten Los Angeles Knight Riders, while Washington Freedom drop to the bottom of the standings after their second defeat in three matches.
