Helmot Re-Signs with Renegades After Historic WBBL Title Win

Simon Helmot has committed to the Melbourne Renegades for another three years following the club’s breakthrough WBBL championship last season, cementing his place as the architect of one of the franchise's most memorable achievements. Helmot, who has extensive coaching experience across international, domestic, and franchise cricket, took charge of the Renegades’ WBBL side four years ago. After three mixed campaigns, he led a remarkable turnaround last season, forging a close bond with the squad and captain Sophie Molineux to guide the team to its maiden title. "Last season was incredibly special for our playing group and staff," Helmot said. "Winning a title is never easy, which makes being part of this group all the more special." With key leadership from general manager James Rosengarten and Molineux, the Renegades’ rise was both strategic and spirited. The club has already secured the services of West Indies star allrounder Hayley Matthews for next season, though contract negotiations remain ongoing with Molineux and fellow Australian Georgia Wareham. In a notable move on the transfer front, the Renegades have bolstered their lineup with rising Victorian talent Tess Flintoff, prised away from cross-town rivals Melbourne Stars, while also losing Ella Hayward and Georgia Prestwidge to the same team. Off the field, Rob Cassell has joined the Renegades' BBL coaching staff under Cameron White and will also serve as Victoria’s new men’s bowling coach, replacing Adam Griffith. Cassell arrives with a strong pedigree, having previously worked in Tasmania and with the Australian national team in an interim capacity. With Helmot at the helm and a refreshed roster, the Renegades are already building momentum as they look to defend their WBBL title in the upcoming season.
