Handscomb, Richardson and Doggett Lead Australia A Squad for India Tour

Handscomb, Richardson and Doggett Lead Australia A Squad for India Tour

Australia have announced strong Australia A squads for their upcoming tour of India, with experienced batter Peter Handscomb and Ashes-winning pacers Jhye Richardson and Brendan Doggett among the headline names.

The tour will be an important opportunity for players looking to push their claims for Australia’s Border-Gavaskar Trophy campaign in India next year. Handscomb, 35, returns to the Australia A setup after last playing international cricket during the 2023-24 India tour, where he featured in all four Tests.

Richardson and Doggett will also be closely monitored, while Todd Murphy has been included as a key spin option for the subcontinent. Left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann has not been selected.

The four-day squad also features Sam Konstas, Nathan McSweeney, Josh Philippe and Jason Sangha. Meanwhile, promising fast bowler Mahli Beardman headlines the one-day squad as he continues his recovery from back stress issues.

Australia A will play two four-day matches from September 22 to October 2, followed by three one-day games between October 6 and 11, all in Puducherry.

The tour is expected to play a key role in assessing Australia's next generation of Test contenders and preparing them for the challenging conditions they will face in India.
