Birmingham, July 16: India fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has received an official warning from the ICC after being found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the Code of Conduct during India's opening ODI victory over England at Edgbaston.
The ICC also handed Brar one demerit point, marking his first disciplinary offence within the last 24 months.
The incident took place during the eighth over of England's innings when Ben Duckett drove the ball back towards the bowler. Brar reacted by throwing the ball in the batter's direction, an act deemed to have breached Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which covers throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate or dangerous manner during an international match.
Brar accepted responsibility for the incident and admitted the offence, allowing the sanction imposed by the match referee to be accepted without the need for a formal disciplinary hearing.
Despite the disciplinary action, Brar recovered from an expensive start with the ball to make an impact in the match. After conceding 26 runs from his opening two overs, he switched ends and struck twice in the same over, removing both England openers Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell. He finished with figures of 2 for 61 from nine overs.
The pacer's spell ended on a worrying note when he appeared to clutch his right calf while preparing to bowl the 48th over, forcing him to leave the field.
The charge against Brar was brought by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns, along with third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth umpire Russell Warren.
Level 1 breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct carry penalties ranging from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 percent of a player's match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
India currently lead the three-match ODI series 1-0, with the second match scheduled to be played in Cardiff.
