Gurbaz, Pretorius star as Amazon Warriors make it five straight

Defending champions Guyana Amazon Warriors continued their unbeaten run in CPL 2026, cruising to an eight-wicket victory over Jamaica Kingsmen in the first match of the season at Providence.

Dwaine Pretorius set the tone with two early wickets as the Kingsmen slipped to 46 for 2 in the powerplay. Despite a late counterattack from Hassan Khan, who smashed an unbeaten 62 off just 29 balls, Jamaica could only manage 159 for 7.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz then led the chase with a brisk 54 off 35 balls, while Mavendra Dindyal provided an explosive start with 33 off 17. Shai Hope remained unbeaten on 39, and Shimron Hetmyer finished the job with an unbeaten 30 off 17 balls.

The Amazon Warriors reached 160 for 2 in 17.2 overs to seal their fifth consecutive win of the tournament. They remain second on the table, just one point behind leaders Antigua and Barbuda Falcons, who have played four more matches.
