Despite the uncertainty surrounding the resumption of IPL 2025, Gujarat Titans (GT), the current table-toppers of the ongoing season, have opted to continue their preparations. Sources close to the franchise have confirmed that GT has maintained normal training routines, even after the league was suspended on May 9 due to the escalation in cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
While many teams saw their overseas players and coaching staff depart India within 24 hours of the suspension, Gujarat Titans were the only team that did not disband entirely. Only the overseas duo of Jos Buttler (England) and Gerald Coetzee (South Africa) returned home, while most of GT’s players and support staff stayed in Ahmedabad to train at the Narendra Modi Stadium, keeping their fitness and readiness intact for a potential resumption of the tournament.
The BCCI has yet to announce a date for the restart of IPL 2025, as they continue consultations with all relevant stakeholders, including government authorities. A ceasefire announced on May 10 raised hopes that the tournament could resume soon, but final decisions are still pending.
Currently leading the points table with eight wins from 11 games, Gujarat Titans are in a strong position heading into the remainder of the season. They share the same win-loss record as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) but enjoy a better net run rate. The team has three remaining fixtures—two at home against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and one away against Delhi Capitals (DC).
Gujarat's top-order has been in impressive form, with openers B Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill ranked second and third, respectively, in the Orange Cap race. Both have surpassed 500 runs, with only Suryakumar Yadav from Mumbai Indians ahead of them. Additionally, GT's fast bowler Prasidh Krishna is leading the Purple Cap race with 20 wickets, further boosting the team's chances should the season resume.
