Lockie Ferguson Likely Out for Remainder of IPL 2025 with Fresh Injury Setback

Punjab Kings (PBKS) fast bowler Lockie Ferguson is unlikely to feature again in IPL 2025 after sustaining what the team has described as a "pretty serious injury." Fast-bowling coach James Hopes confirmed the news ahead of PBKS’ upcoming clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Mullanpur.

“Ferguson is out indefinitely, and the chances of us getting him back by the end of the tournament are very slim, I would have thought,” Hopes said. “I think he has sustained a pretty serious injury.”

The injury occurred during PBKS’ recent fixture against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Saturday. Ferguson pulled up after delivering just two balls in the sixth over and was seen clutching the side of his left leg just below the hip. Following an on-field assessment by the physio, he left the field and did not return. SRH went on to record the second-highest successful chase in IPL history, winning with eight wickets to spare.

Ferguson had only recently returned from a hamstring injury suffered during the ILT20 in the UAE, which had also ruled him out of February’s Champions Trophy. This latest setback marks his third injury since November 2024, following previous hamstring and calf issues.

Despite limited appearances this season—just over three games—Ferguson has picked up five wickets at an economy rate of 9.17.
