Asked to bat first, South Africa posted their highest total of the series, 187 for 4, with Esterhuizen leading the charge. The young batter continued his dream run, smashing a career-best 75 off just 33 balls, following up his maiden fifty in the previous match. His dominance on the leg side was striking, with 52 of his runs coming in that region, including six towering sixes. He was well supported by Rubin Hermann, who contributed a brisk 39 in a 59-run partnership before falling to a stunning catch by Nick Kelly.
New Zealand’s bowlers struggled for control, with only Ben Sears making notable inroads, while the rest of the attack conceded heavily. Cole McConchie endured a particularly tough outing, finishing with 0 for 48.
In reply, New Zealand never truly threatened the target. Missing several first-choice players and stand-in captain Tom Latham due to injury, their batting lineup lacked firepower. Bevan Jacobs top-scored with 36, and a 52-run stand with Jimmy Neesham briefly offered hope, but the chase soon fizzled out.
South Africa’s bowlers maintained tight control throughout, with Gerald Coetzee, Wiaan Mulder, and Ottneil Baartman all picking up two wickets each. Coetzee, in particular, capped off an excellent series, finishing with figures of 2 for 21 and showcasing impressive control and variation.
Despite a sloppy fielding display from both sides—featuring a record nine dropped catches—the Proteas proved superior in key moments.
