CSK Won’t Panic Despite Disastrous IPL 2025 Season, Says Michael Hussey

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batting coach Michael Hussey has stated that the franchise will not make any drastic decisions despite a dismal IPL 2025 campaign that saw them become the first team eliminated from playoff contention. Speaking ahead of their upcoming match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Hussey acknowledged the disappointment of the season but emphasized the importance of perspective and long-term thinking.

A series of challenges have plagued CSK this year. They lost their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad to injury just five games into the tournament, and their batting lineup—both top and middle order—has struggled to find rhythm. The bowling attack has been inconsistent, with only Noor Ahmad showing some stability, while their fielding has been notably poor, drawing criticism from MS Dhoni for the number of dropped catches.

Hussey pointed out that although the results suggest a steep decline, the team is not far off from competing strongly. He insisted that fine margins often decide matches in a competition packed with the best talent from around the world, and that the team’s shortcomings could be addressed with more clarity and better execution rather than a complete overhaul.

One of the most disappointing aspects of CSK’s season, according to Hussey, has been their home form. The iconic Chepauk Stadium, long considered a fortress, has been breached five times this season—more than in any previous edition. Hussey attributed this to factors like improved opposition strategies, the impact of dew making batting easier in second innings, and CSK often losing the toss. However, he also acknowledged that the team’s overall form, both home and away, has been lacking and that the venue alone was not to blame.

With four games remaining and playoff hopes dashed, CSK's focus now shifts to salvaging pride and preparing for the future. Hussey highlighted the opportunity these remaining matches present—not just to collect a few more wins, but also to evaluate players and gather crucial information that will help in squad planning. He stressed the importance of identifying talent, giving opportunities to emerging players, and building a stronger foundation for the seasons ahead.

In spite of the current disappointment, Hussey’s message was clear: CSK will remain composed, learn from their mistakes, and work toward coming back stronger.
