Confidence Is Back’: Sammy Lauds West Indies After 2-2 Series Draw

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has expressed satisfaction with his team's progress after they drew the five-match T20I series 2-2 against India, with the final match in Bengaluru abandoned due to rain.
Sammy described the result as a fair reflection of the teams' performances, highlighting how West Indies competed against the reigning T20 World Cup champions. He also noted that many had underestimated his side before the series began.
West Indies had previously struggled in bilateral T20I series in India, losing all three of their earlier series and winning just one of seven matches. Sammy viewed the latest result as a significant step forward, pointing out that his team had matched India and outperformed them in certain aspects.
The coach also hopes the team's improving performances will help address Cricket West Indies' ongoing financial challenges. The board has faced several financial difficulties over the years and recently announced a restructuring plan that included a 25% pay cut for contracted international players.
Sammy stressed the importance of supporting West Indies cricket, highlighting its historical contribution to the global game through international tours, fan engagement and revenue generation. He believes competitive performances against top teams can help strengthen the team's position and bring greater attention to its financial needs.
The series draw follows West Indies' T20I series victory over Sri Lanka at home and their run to the semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup in India.
Reflecting on the team's recent progress, Sammy said the players have rediscovered their confidence, intent and belief. He hopes this renewed attitude will translate into consistent performances in future competitions.
