The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash reward of INR 131 crore for the India men's national cricket team following their triumphant campaign in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
India secured the title with a dominant 96-run victory over New Zealand men's national cricket team in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The reward will be shared among the players, support staff and selectors in recognition of the team’s historic achievement.
In a statement, the BCCI congratulated the squad and the management for their remarkable success. “The Board congratulates the players, support staff and selectors once again on this historic achievement and wishes them continued success in the future,” the statement read.
India set up their emphatic win with a commanding batting performance after being put in to bat. The hosts piled up a massive total of 255 for 5, powered by half-centuries from Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan, all of whom provided strong contributions at the top of the order.
New Zealand’s chase never gained momentum as India’s bowlers struck early and consistently. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah led the attack with a brilliant spell, finishing with figures of 4 for 15 in his four overs to seal the victory.
The triumph marked a historic moment for India, who became the first team to win three men’s T20 World Cup titles. They also became the first side in the tournament’s history to successfully defend the championship, with no previous defending champion having even reached the final.
With the victory, India now hold both the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy titles and will look to complete an unprecedented treble when they compete for the ODI World Cup next year.
