Bangladesh have opted for continuity, naming an unchanged 15-man squad for the first two ODIs against New Zealand cricket team following their recent series win over Pakistan. The decision reflects the selectors’ confidence in a group that delivered a 2-1 victory at home.
The squad will once again be led by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who continues to grow into the leadership role. The first two matches are scheduled to be played in Dhaka on April 17 and 20, before the teams move to Chattogram for the third ODI.
Chief selector Habibul Bashar emphasized the importance of stability in team selection, stating that players need to be given adequate opportunities before being judged. This approach means continued backing for players like Saif Hassan and Afif Hossain, who had modest returns in the previous series but are still part of the long-term plans.
Bangladesh have also retained their pace quartet of Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana, moving away from the rotation policy seen in recent years. This consistency in the bowling attack could prove crucial against a strong New Zealand side.
A unique aspect of the squad preparation is the involvement of five players in the Pakistan Super League. Taskin, Mustafizur, Shoriful, Rishad Hossain, and Tanzid Hasan are currently playing in the tournament but are expected to join the national squad shortly before the series begins.
With momentum on their side and a settled combination, Bangladesh will aim to build on their recent success and challenge New Zealand strongly in home conditions. The series also serves as an important step in solidifying roles ahead of upcoming international assignments.
