Harare, July 11: Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field against Zimbabwe in the final ODI at Harare Sports Club, with Sikandar Raza stepping in as captain for the hosts in the absence of regular skipper Richard Ngarava.
Zimbabwe entered the contest chasing their first ODI series sweep since defeating the UAE 4-0 in 2019. Having successfully defended totals in the opening two matches, the hosts were asked to bat first on a cold Harare morning, where early moisture was expected to assist Bangladesh's bowlers.
Ngarava missed the match as Zimbabwe continued to manage his workload due to a long-standing back concern. The hosts also rested fast bowlers Blessing Muzarabani and Newman Nyamhuri, handing greater responsibility to Brad Evans, Tanaka Chivanga and Ernest Masuku in the pace attack. Left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza was also included.
Bangladesh made two changes as they searched for a consolation victory. Record-breaking fast bowler Nahid Rana and legspinner Rishad Hossain were left out, with Shoriful Islam and Mohammed Saifuddin coming into the playing XI.
Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz backed his bowlers to exploit the early conditions and restrict Zimbabwe to a manageable total after Bangladesh's batting unit struggled during the first two games of the series.
A large crowd was expected at Harare Sports Club for the weekend fixture, which forms part of a major sporting day in Zimbabwe, with the national rugby team also scheduled to face the USA later in the day.
With Zimbabwe targeting a historic clean sweep and Bangladesh determined to avoid a series whitewash, the final ODI is set for another competitive contest in Harare.
