The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has banned former fast bowler Manjurul Islam from all cricket related activities under its jurisdiction after an independent inquiry found elements of misconduct and harassment in his behaviour.
The investigation was launched following a formal complaint by former Bangladesh women’s captain Jahanara Alam. She alleged that Manjurul behaved inappropriately during the 2022 Women’s ODI World Cup, where he served as the team’s chief selector and manager. In an interview last November, Jahanara claimed he had asked lewd questions and acted in an unprofessional manner.
An independent inquiry committee, chaired by Justice Tariq Ul Hakim and comprising legal and medical professionals along with a BCB director, examined four specific allegations. The report was submitted to BCB president Aminul Islam earlier this month.
According to the board’s statement, two of the allegations were not supported by available evidence. However, the committee found prima facie evidence regarding two other claims, noting behaviour inconsistent with professional standards. It observed that certain actions fell within the definition of misconduct and harassment under applicable Supreme Court guidelines.
Following a board directors’ meeting, the BCB imposed a ban on Manjurul from all direct or indirect employment and cricket related activities within its jurisdiction. The board added that it is reviewing the committee’s recommendations and may take further steps if required.
Manjurul’s contractual tenure with the BCB had already ended in June 2025. He is currently serving as head coach of the China women’s team.
