Bangladesh head into the second Test against Australia in Mackay with a chance to complete a historic series victory after their stunning nine-wicket triumph in Darwin.
The visitors produced a commanding performance in the opening Test, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series and putting Australia under significant pressure. Another victory would give Bangladesh their first Test series win in Australia and move them up to No. 3 in the World Test Championship standings.
Bangladesh's success in Darwin was driven by disciplined bowling and composed batting. Hasan Mahmud claimed nine wickets to earn Player-of-the-Match honours, while Tanzid Hasan registered his maiden Test century. Mehidy Hasan Miraz contributed strongly in both departments, and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto impressed with both his batting and leadership.
Australia have responded to the defeat by changing their opening combination. Matt Renshaw comes in for Jake Weatherald and will partner Travis Head at the top of the order.
Josh Hazlewood was Australia's standout performer in the first Test with six wickets, while Cameron Green's second-innings century provided another positive. However, the hosts will need a much-improved collective performance if they are to level the series.
Travis Head will be one of Australia's key players after being dismissed by Hasan Mahmud in both innings in Darwin. Mahmud, meanwhile, will again be central to Bangladesh's hopes after his nine-wicket haul showcased his ability to trouble Australia's batting attack.
Bangladesh do have minor fitness concerns. Tanzid Hasan has been dealing with a stiff neck, while Mushfiqur Rahim suffered a finger injury during training. Neither is currently considered a major doubt, while Shoriful Islam has been declared fit and is available for selection.
The Test will also be a landmark occasion for Mackay, with the Great Barrier Reef Arena hosting its first-ever Test match and becoming Australia's 12th Test venue. Batting conditions are expected to be favourable, although the coastal breeze could provide assistance to the bowlers.
Australia have never lost both Tests of a two-match Test series at home. Bangladesh, meanwhile, need just one more victory to turn their remarkable Darwin upset into one of the biggest Test series wins in their history.
