Australia A Dominate Sri Lanka A on Day Three of Four-Day Game at Marrara Oval

Liam Scott, Josh Philippe, and Mitchell Perry took control on day three, helping Australia A gain a commanding position in their four-day game against Sri Lanka A at Darwin's Marrara Oval. Resuming on 241 for 4 in reply to Sri Lanka A's 272, Australia A suffered an early setback with Nathan McSweeney falling for 94 on the very first ball of the day. However, batters six, seven, and eight put in crucial half-centuries, helping Australia A build a formidable total.

By the time Australia A's innings ended, they had racked up 486 all out, taking a commanding lead of 214 runs. The team's resilience on day three turned what had been a shaky 127 for 4 on day two into a strong position heading into the final stages of the match.

In response, Sri Lanka A's Lahiru Udara came out aggressively, taking 12 runs from the first five balls bowled by Mitchell Perry. However, his positive start was short-lived as he fell for 17, caught behind off Henry Thornton after skying a pull shot. McSweeney, who had resumed the day just six runs short of his century, was dismissed on the first ball of the morning. He was bowled by a sharp delivery from paceman Pramod Madushan that moved back off the seam, ending his 220-ball knock, which included six boundaries.

Scott, who had started the day on 52, added another 42 runs to his tally off 104 balls, forming a 98-run partnership with Philippe for the sixth wicket. Scott, however, fell for 94, holing out to mid-on off left-arm spinner Sonal Dinusha, who was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka A.

Philippe and Perry continued to add runs, with a 58-run stand before Philippe was dismissed for an aggressive 85 off 107 balls. His innings included five fours and a six, but he was trapped lbw by Nishan Peris. Perry remained steady and built a 61-run knock before also falling to Dinusha, mistiming a drive to extra cover.

Australia A now hold a commanding lead and will look to press home their advantage on the final day of the game.
