Ashok Sharma Replaces Injured Yudhvir Singh in India A Squad for Sri Lanka Tri-Series

India A have called up fast bowler Ashok Sharma as a replacement for the injured Yudhvir Singh in the ongoing one-day tri-series in Sri Lanka.

Yudhvir, the Jammu & Kashmir pacer, has been ruled out after experiencing discomfort in his right shoulder during training. According to the BCCI, he first felt pain during a fielding session on June 11, with the issue worsening while bowling on June 13. Following medical assessment, specialists advised a structured rehabilitation program at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence to recover from a right rotator cuff injury.

Ashok’s inclusion comes at a significant moment in his career. The express pacer, who grabbed attention in IPL 2026 by clocking 154.2 kph—one of the fastest deliveries of the season—has earned another opportunity to impress at the international development level.

The 22-year-old showed flashes of brilliance for Gujarat Titans during IPL 2026, taking six wickets in six matches. Although he was expensive at times, conceding at an economy of 10.85, his raw pace and wicket-taking ability made him one of the most exciting young fast bowlers in the tournament.

Before the IPL, Ashok had a breakout domestic T20 season in the 2025-26 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In his debut campaign, he finished as joint-highest wicket-taker with 22 wickets in 10 matches, averaging 15.63.

Known for his express pace, ability to move the ball, and consistent lengths, Ashok has quickly risen through the ranks. He has also delivered strong performances in domestic red-ball and List A cricket, taking 14 wickets in four first-class matches and 13 wickets in seven List A games for Rajasthan.

India A are currently struggling in the tri-series, having lost two of their three matches, including a dramatic Super Over defeat to Sri Lanka A. They will now face Afghanistan A in a must-win final league match on Wednesday as they look to secure a place in Sunday’s final.

Ashok’s arrival could provide India A with the extra firepower they need in the pace department.
