India have called up the uncapped white-ball seamer Anshul Kamboj for Saturday's final ODI against West Indies after a hamstring injury ruled Prasidh Krishna out of the match in New Chandigarh
Prasidh broke down during the second ODI in Guwahati on Wednesday, getting through only five of his ten overs. He opened with a four-over spell, came back for the 31st over and walked off at the end of it, finishing with 1 for 45.
India won the match regardless and lead the three-match series 2-0, but the fast bowler now leaves the tour party altogether. He is travelling to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, where the extent of the strain will be established.
Kamboj, who was on India A duty against Australia A in Puducherry, was pulled out of that red-ball match midway through and sent to join the senior squad.
Prasidh had taken the new ball in Guwahati, and his exit left India a frontline bowler short for the rest of the innings. Naman Dhir was among those who had to absorb the overs he could not bowl.
There was no immediate prognosis on Thursday. "They probably will scan him tomorrow," India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak said of the bowler, who had already left the squad by then.
A source familiar with the decision told IANS: "Prasidh is definitely not playing the third ODI due to the hamstring injury he has picked. He will now report to the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for further scans, and his recovery timeline will be drawn based on that. For now, Kamboj is likely to be his replacement."
Kamboj was in the middle of a strong performance for India A when the call came. He had taken 3 for 34 from 17.3 overs in the first innings against Australia A in Puducherry.
He bowled two more overs in the second innings on Thursday before being withdrawn and released from the squad, an unusual mid-match substitution that underlines how late the senior team's problem emerged.
Both squads were due in Chandigarh on Thursday evening, which left little room to bring in a bowler from further afield.
The Haryana seamer has one international appearance to his name, a Test against England at Manchester in July 2025. He has never played an ODI or a T20I for India.
His case has been built in franchise and domestic cricket. Kamboj was Chennai Super Kings' leading wicket-taker in the 2026 IPL, and he had been bowling long spells for India A until the call came.
Whether he plays on Saturday is a separate question from whether he travels. India have more than one way to fill the gap in New Chandigarh.
Mohammed Siraj, who sat out the first two ODIs, is the most obvious beneficiary if the selectors prefer experience in a dead rubber.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, left out of the Guwahati XI, is the other candidate, and his batting would lengthen the order in a way Kamboj's would not.
Gurnoor Brar and Auqib Nabi are also in the squad, so the replacement may well end up carrying drinks on Saturday.
With the series won, the third ODI becomes an audition. India have fewer than 20 one-day internationals left before the 2027 World Cup, and the seam-bowling depth behind Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj is the squad's least settled area.
Prasidh's availability is part of the same question. He took the new ball in Guwahati, and until the scans come back there is no timeline on when he bowls again.
For Shubman Gill, who captains the side and made the runs that won the Guwahati match, the dead rubber is a chance to look at the bowlers he will need rather than the ones he already trusts.
The third and final ODI begins on Saturday at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
