Alyssa Healy has dismissed suggestions that this year’s ODI World Cup will be a swansong, revealing a challenging year of injuries has instead reignited her drive to continue playing. The Australia captain, who has missed key matches due to a foot stress fracture and a knee issue, will make her comeback in the upcoming Australia A series against India A in Queensland, a precursor to the October–November World Cup. Healy, 35, admitted that an ideal exit had crossed her mind earlier this year, but the setbacks have only strengthened her desire to carry on. “It’s made me realize I still want to do a little bit more than maybe what I thought,” she said, hinting that any retirement plans can wait. As Australia aims to become the first team in nearly four decades to win back‑to‑back ODI World Cups, Healy emphasized that her priority is to lead the team to glory. “It’s not about ticking one more box,” she explained. “It’s about wanting to win a World Cup for Australia… and no one has gone back‑to‑back, which is a real motivator.” After a long recovery period, Healy is confident she can resume wicketkeeping duties and manage the intense demands of the tournament, which includes nine matches in 32 days, and is already looking beyond the World Cup to a home summer and a February–March series against India.
