ACB Caps Afghanistan Players’ Overseas Stints to Three Leagues a Year

The Afghanistan Cricket Board has introduced a new policy limiting Afghanistan players to participation in a maximum of three foreign leagues per year. The decision is aimed at striking a balance between global exposure and national commitments as the board looks to strengthen the international team.

ACB officials said the move is designed to manage workload, reduce burnout, and ensure player availability for Afghanistan’s international calendar. With Afghan cricketers increasingly in demand across franchise leagues, concerns had grown over fatigue and missed national assignments.

While overseas leagues have played a key role in developing Afghanistan’s players financially and technically, the board believes structured regulation is now necessary. The policy is also intended to create a fair and transparent framework, avoiding ad-hoc approvals and conflicts.

Players will still be allowed to choose which leagues best suit their careers, but within defined limits. The ACB has stressed that communication with players will remain central as the policy is implemented.

The decision reflects Afghanistan’s push toward long-term planning, prioritising sustained international competitiveness while continuing to support players’ professional growth abroad.
