Indian batting star Shubman Gill etched his name into the record books during the third T20I against South Africa, becoming the highest run-scorer in international cricket in the calendar year 2025. Gill achieved the feat during India’s comfortable 7-wicket victory at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala, which gave the hosts a 2-1 lead in the ongoing five-match T20I series.

Gill scored a steady 28 runs off 28 balls, anchoring India’s chase after South Africa were bundled out for a modest total. During his innings, the right-hander struck five boundaries and stitched together crucial partnerships at the top of the order.

He added 60 runs for the first wicket with Abhishek Sharma, who played a brisk knock of 35 off 18 balls, and later shared a 32-run stand for the second wicket with Tilak Varma, who scored 25 from 34 deliveries.

 Gill Tops International Run Charts in 2025

With this knock, Shubman Gill went past West Indies batter Shai Hope to become the leading run-scorer across all formats in 2025. Gill, who currently captains India in Tests and ODIs, has accumulated an impressive 1764 runs in 35 international matches this year.

 T20I Form Remains a Concern

Despite his overall success in 2025, Gill’s T20I form has been underwhelming. In 15 T20Is this year, he has scored only 291 runs and is yet to register a half-century. In contrast, Abhishek Sharma has been India’s standout T20I batter in 2025, scoring 825 runs in 20 matches.

Earlier in the match, India’s bowlers delivered a disciplined performance to bowl out South Africa for 117 in 20 overs.
