Profile

- After impressing for Tamil Nadu in white-ball cricket and in the TNPL, Varun was bought by Kings XI Punjab ahead of IPL 2019 for INR 8.4 crore. But he conceded 25 runs in his first over, injured his finger, and did not feature for them in the remainder of the season.

- Ahead of IPL 2020, Kolkata Knight Riders bought Varun for INR 4 crore. That season, he picked up a five-wicket haul against Delhi Capitals and was the team's highest wicket-taker (17). He went on to top the team's wicket-taking charts in 2021 and 2023 as well.

- In IPL 2024, Varun was the season's second-highest wicket-taker (21) with an average of 19.14 and an economy rate of 8.04. It helped KKR win their third IPL title, this one after a gap of ten years.

- Ahead of IPL 2025, Varun was retained by KKR for INR 12 crore, and then again for IPL 2026.
